More than once I’ve been asked why I don’t have videos for some of my patterns. The reason? I just don’t feel comfortable with my accent.
Yes, let’s face it, I am a that kind of person that criticizes myself for everything. It must be a really bad habit of me, but I am dealing with it. I speak Spanish as mother-tongue, English is my second language, and even though I feel I’ve improved my vocabulary and grammar during the past 8 years I’ve been living in Canada, I still feel this is a long road to walk, but I am walking it!
During the testing of my latest pattern: The Aran Overalls, I had to clarify some parts of the pattern that weren’t clear and had no pictures. I didn’t have that much time to make some to send my testers, so I gathered some courage and make what it is now my very first video crocheting (insert the screaming here!). A very bad video, with the camera positioned in the wrong place, the TV on, and my toddler bumping his head with the table and asking for bubbles. (LOL)
I wasn’t thinking on posting it on my page, not even thinking on making a blog post about it, but then I thought you would appreciate to see how my life goes around crochet, my kids, and my house.
This is my second attempt to start a blog, and hopefully this will be a successful one.
My name is Paloma, and I am the face behind La Tienda de Paloma, a space in my life that belongs only to me and my dedicated fans.
I started my brand over 4 years ago, when still on mat leave with my first one (Enzo). Between diapers, and bottles I felt the needing to try something new and craft related. I had some knitting needles and yarn that I brought with me when I first came to live here, so I knitted.
Then I thought on re-learning how to crochet (I was taught the basics when I was in Elementary School back home). so I crocheted. My husband suggested that I should sell these online, and I did. I did some research and found that Etsy was the right platform at that moment.
And just like that, without knowing this will be the beginning of my yarn-purchase addiction, I bought my first skeins of yarn, I still remember the brand (Bernat Satin) and the color (Fern, and Soft Fern). This would the beginning of my journey as a crafter and designer: From selling crocheted accessories to design my own crochet patterns.
With the arriving of my second one (two years ago) I had to slow down. Things got busier with two, that is for sure, so the time I spent crocheting was limited to when he was napping or both sleeping at night.
I have published over 80 designs so far, designs that range from hair accessories to complete and more complex outfits for little kids. I am always eager to attempt new techniques and textures, even if that means to spend countless hours trying and failing, frogging, and trying again, until I am completely satisfied with the results.
I would love to hear some feedback from you, and of course I would love if you can subscribe to the blog. I’ll work hard on bringing you fresh ideas, new techniques, and the most adorable patterns to satisfy your cravings. 🙂
And as a thank you for subscribing to my new blog I would like to offer you a little(big) discount on your next purchase. Use coupon code: LTDPBLOG on my Ravelry store.
